DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 700 PM CDT (0000 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Ileana was located near latitude 17.6 North, longitude 104.0 West. Ileana is moving toward the northwest near 18 mph (30 km/h), and a west-northwestward motion is expected on Tuesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph (100 km/h) with higher gusts. Ileana is forecast to weaken due to the influence of the much larger circulation of Hurricane John to the southwest, and to dissipate by late Tuesday. HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- WIND: Tropical storm conditions are expected within portions of the warning area through early Tuesday. RAINFALL: Ileana is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 2 to 4 inches over coastal sections of the Mexican states of Guerrero, Michoacan, Colima, and Jalisco, with possible isolated maximum amounts of 6 inches through Tuesday night. These rains may cause flash flooding. SURF: Swells generated by Ileana will be affecting portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico during the next couple of days. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.
