DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 PM AST (2100 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Gabrielle was located near latitude 40.7 North, longitude 45.4 West. Gabrielle is moving toward the northeast near 21 mph (33 km/h), and this general motion with an increase in forward speed is forecast over the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is expected tonight, but a weakening trend is likely to begin Tuesday. Gabrielle is expected to become an extratropical low by Tuesday night and dissipate over the far North Atlantic Thursday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles (185 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000 mb (29.53 inches).
