Interests along the coast of North Carolina should monitor the progress of this system. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1100 PM EDT (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Three was located near latitude 32.6 North, longitude 74.1 West. The depression is moving toward the north-northwest near 6 mph (9 km/h) and a slow northward motion is expected overnight and Saturday. A decrease in forward speed is expected by Saturday night, and the depression is forecast to meander well off the southeast U.S. coastline on Sunday and Monday. Maximum sustained winds remain near 30 mph (45 km/h) with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm on Saturday. An Air Force reconnaissance plane is scheduled to investigate the cyclone on Saturday. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1015 mb (29.98 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by the depression are expected to increase and affect portions of the coasts of North Carolina and the mid-Atlantic states this weekend.
