Synopsis for the Gulf of Mexico .SYNOPSIS...The remnant low of former Tropical Storm Katia is centered just inland Mexico near 20.0N 97.9W 1004 mb at 11 AM EDT moving WSW at 2 kt. Maximum winds 30 kt with gusts to 40 kt. The low will dissipate by early this evening. Major Hurricane Irma currently along the N central coast of Cuba is forecast to enter the eastern Straits of Florida this afternoon, reach near 23.4N 80.7W early tonight, then turn NW into the Gulf of Mexico to near 24.5N 81.6W by early Sunday, and track northward over the Florida peninsula during the rest of Sunday and Sunday night. Irma will bring tropical storm force and hurricane force winds to the eastern portions of the Straits of Florida and Florida Bay and far SE Gulf late this afternoon and through late today into Sunday. Tropical storm and hurricane conditions will spread northward along the far eastern Gulf through early Monday afternoon, before lifting N of the Gulf Monday night.
