height of the highest 1/3 of the waves. Individual waves may be
more than twice the significant wave height.

Synopsis for the Gulf of Mexico

.SYNOPSIS...Hurricane Katia centered near 22.1N 97.2W 988 mb at
11 PM EDT moving WSW at 6 kt. Maximum winds 65 kt with gusts to
80 kt. Katia will move inland late this evening and start to
rapidly weaken to a tropical storm, reaching near 20.2N 97.9W
early Sat with maximum sustained wind of 40 kt gusts to 50 kt.
Katia will continue inland and eventually dissipate through late
Sat. Major Hurricane Irma is forecast to enter the eastern
Straits of Florida Sat afternoon, then turn northward across the
Florida peninsula Sat night and Sunday, bringing tropical storm
force and possibly hurricane force winds to eastern portions of
the Straits of Florida and Florida Bay in the far SE Gulf late
Sat into Sun.
