Southeast Gulf of Mexico .SYNOPSIS...Broad low pressure, Invest AL92, is positioned in the SW Gulf near 21N95W at 1009 mb, with winds just below gale force on the SW side. Numerous showers and thunderstorms are across the waters from 19N to 26N and W of 92W. Development of this system is expected, and a tropical or subtropical depression or storm is likely to form this weekend or early next week while moving eastward or northeastward across the Gulf of Mexico. Regardless of development, increasing winds and building seas along with plentiful showers and thunderstorms is expected with the low. In additional, a front will gradually develop across the northern Gulf and extend just NW of the low this weekend into early next week, with increasing winds and building seas N and W of the boundary. Meanwhile Hurricane Kirk will remain E the region as it moves through the north- central Atlantic through tonight. Very large swells generated by Kirk will mix with swell following the trough, producing rough and hazardous seas over the waters E of 75W into early next week. Looking ahead, winds and seas may increase off Florida and near the Bahamas mid-week associated with a front moving into the region and low pressure over the Gulf of Mexico which has the potential for tropical cyclone formation.
