Southeast Gulf of Mexico

.SYNOPSIS...Tropical Storm Ian E of area near 28.7N 80.4W 987 mb
at 11 AM EDT moving NNE at 8 kt. Maximum sustained winds 60 kt
gusts 75 kt. High pressure dominates the Gulf waters. The
pressure gradient between the high pressure and Ian supports
fresh to strong northerly winds over the NE Gulf, mainly N of
25N and E of 88W with seas in the 8 to 12 ft range. Fresh to
strong NW to N winds and seas of 8-9 ft are also noted over the
SW Gulf, including the Veracruz area. Winds and seas are
forecast to gradually diminish over the Gulf waters over the
next couple of days. Looking ahead, a cold front may enter the
northeast Gulf late Sat or Sun then stall and dissipate.

EDT moving NNE at 8 kt. Maximum sustained winds 60 kt gusts 75 
kt. Ian will strengthen to a hurricane near 30.0N 79.9W this 
evening, move N of area to 31.8N 79.8W Fri morning, move inland 
and weaken to a tropical storm near 34.0N 80.3W Fri evening, 
weaken as an extratropical cyclone near 35.9N 81.1W Sat morning,
 37.0N 82.0W Sat evening, and dissipate Sun morning. Winds and 
seas will diminish across the region Sat into Sun.

.THIS AFTERNOON...TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS WITH HURRICANE
CONDITIONS POSSIBLE. SW winds 25 to 30 kt S of 27N, and S 55 to
60 kt N of 27N. Seas 8 to 11 ft in S to SW swell. Scattered
showers and isolated tstms. 
.TONIGHT...HURRICANE CONDITIONS EXPECTED. SW winds 20 to 25 kt S
of 27N, and S to SW 45 to 60 kt N of 27N. Seas 8 to 13 ft in SW
to W swell. Scattered showers and isolated tstms. 
.FRI...TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS EXPECTED WITH HURRICANE
CONDITIONS POSSIBLE. SW to W winds 10 to 15 kt S of 27N, and S to
SW 30 to 35 kt N of 27N. Seas 7 to 10 ft in NW swell. Scattered
showers and isolated tstms.
