Southeast Gulf of Mexico

.SYNOPSIS...A weak Atlantic ridge will extend westward into the
Gulf through Fri. Southerly winds will increase Tuesday and
Wednesday over the western Gulf as the pressure gradient between
high pressure ridging over the central Gulf and low pressure
over W Texas tightens. The gradient will weaken late on
Wednesday as the ridge begins to lift N to the northern Gulf.
This will allow the southerly winds to diminish.

showers and thunderstorms.

.SYNOPSIS...Tropical Storm Gert centered near 29.7N 72.2W at
5 am EDT is moving NNW at 8 kt, with maximum sustained winds
40 kt gusts to 50 kt. Gert will gradually intensify as it reaches
near 30.9N 72.3W early this afternoon, with maximum sustained 
winds 45 kt gusts to 55 kt, then turn NE and lift N of the 
forecast later in the afternoon while it continues to intensify 
through tonight. High pres will build westward along 27N through 
Thu S of the tropical storm. Increasing winds and seas are 
expected S of 22N beginning on Wednesday as a strong tropical wave
or low pressure approaches the northern Tropical Atlantic zones.
