000 AGXX40 KNHC 151840 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 240 PM EDT Sun Mar 15 2020 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... High pressure ridging extending from the western Atlantic westward to across the Gulf will change little through Fri. The combination between the ridge and low pressure forming over inland Mexico Tue and Tue night will result in a tightening of the pressure gradient leading to some increase in winds and seas over the NW and N-central Gulf beginning Tue night and through Thu. Fresh to locally strong northeast to east winds will develop each evening during the period near the northern Yucatan Peninsula, then weaken overnight as the associated trough moves offshore. Patchy fog is expected over portions of the NW Gulf, especially during the overnight and early morning hours into Tue. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... High pressure north of the area will support fresh to strong northeast to east winds over the south-central Caribbean for the next several days. Strong winds, with frequent gusts to gale force, are expected each night near the coast of Colombia through the period. Strong winds will pulse through the Windward Passage and south of Hispaniola each night and into the mornings through Fri. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... The pressure gradient between high pressure ridging over the western Atlantic and low pressure of 1014 mb located east of the area near 23N61W supports fresh north to northeast winds over the eastern part of the area south of 27N. The low pressure is forecast to continue to gradually weaken while it moves south- southwestward to near 20N62W by Mon evening. A weak cold front will move across the northern waters today through Mon night. Expect moderate to fresh winds and building seas in the wake of the front. Strong high pressure will build north of the area Wed night through Fri night, resulting in increasing northeast to east winds and building seas across the forecast region. Northeast swell generated by the low will impact the southeast waters through Wed. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
