000 AGXX40 KNHC 170658 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 258 AM EDT Sat Aug 17 2019 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A stationary front located over the southeastern U.S. in combination with very deep tropical moisture in place continues to result in scattered showers and thunderstorms over much of the NE and north-central Gulf. Some of this activity may contain gusty winds causing rough seas. Moderate to fresh southwest winds are expected over the NE Gulf ahead of the front through Sun evening. Fresh to strong winds will pulse over the western Yucatan Peninsula adjacent waters through Mon. The northern portion of a tropical wave will move from the Caribbean Sea to far-south central Gulf Wed. Deep tropical moisture will spread westward from the western Caribbean to the south-central Gulf and SW Gulf Wed and Wed night. Expect increasing shower and thunderstorm activity over these waters at that time. Otherwise, high pressure will build westward across the area early Sat and prevail through Wed. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A tropical wave with axis near 82W will continue to move across the western Caribbean tonight and Sat. The passage of the wave along with high pressure north of the area will continue to support fresh to near gale force trades over the southwest Caribbean through Sun. Fresh to strong winds will resume over the south-central Caribbean basin on Sun evening being supported by the passage of a new tropical wave, that is just crossing the Lesser Antilles. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... High pressure currently dominating the forecast area, will begin to slowly lift northward as a trough quickly moves westward across the eastern and central forecast waters this weekend. This will maintain mainly gentle to moderate winds north of 22N, and moderate to fresh winds south of 22N through most of the period. Fresh to strong winds are expected over the NW forecast waters today due to a tighter pressure gradient between the ridge and a stationary front, that is located over the southeastern U.S. Fresh to strong winds east winds will also pulse at night between the Turks and Caicos and Hispaniola through Mon. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
