116 AGXX40 KNHC 161803 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 203 PM EDT Fri Aug 16 2019 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... The combination of a pre-frontal trough over the NE Gulf ahead of a stationary front located over the southern U.S. along with very deep tropical moisture in place continues to result in scattered showers and thunderstorms over the NE and north-central Gulf. Some of this activity may contain strong gusty winds causing rough seas. Moderate to fresh southwest winds are expected over the NE Gulf ahead of the front and trough through at least Sun. Winds will pulse to fresh over the western Yucatan Peninsula adjacent waters through Mon, but to fresh to strong Sat night, and again Sun night. Otherwise, Atlantic high pressure will build westward across the area early Sat and prevail through Tue. Beyond the forecast period, the northern portion of tropical wave may move from the western Caribbean Sea and across the southern part of the Gulf late next week with a broad surge of moisture across the much of the southern and southwestern Gulf. Future forecasts will reference this feature in detail as conditions warrant. Please see the latest Tropical Weather Outlooks from the NHC during the next several days. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A tropical wave with axis near 76W will move across the western Caribbean tonight through early Sat night. The passage of the wave along with high pressure north of the area will continue to support fresh to strong trades over the central and southwest Caribbean today, and over the NW Caribbean Sat and Sun. Fresh to strong winds will resume over the south-central Caribbean basin on Mon supported by the passage of a new tropical wave moving across that part of the Caribbean. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A ridge, that currently dominates the forecast area, will begin to slowly lift northward as a trough moves from E to W across the eastern and central forecast waters during the upcoming weekend. The rather light gradient will maintain mainly gentle to moderate winds north of 22N, and moderate to fresh winds south of 22N through most of the period. Expect moderate to fresh SW winds across the NW part between the ridge and a stationary front over the SE CONUS. Fresh to strong winds are expected between Turks and Caicos and Hispaniola at night through tonight. Strong winds will resume over this area Mon evening. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
