000 AGXX40 KNHC 090715 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 315 AM EDT Sun Jun 9 2019 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... The combination of a broad low pressure area, that is slowly moving eastward over the southern United States, and relatively weak high pressure ridging that extends from the western Atlantic to the Straits of Florida and Cuba will continue to result in moderate to fresh southwest to west winds across the NE and north-central Gulf through Mon. A weak stationary front extending from near Mobile to inland southern Texas will weaken in the north-central Gulf today. A cold front will move across the NW Gulf Mon and Mon night, then become stationary and weaken over the northern Gulf Tue through Wed night. Fresh north to northeast winds will follow in behind the front before diminishing to mainly gentle speeds on Tue. A weak cold front will move across the north-central Gulf on Wed and across the NE Gulf Wed night into Thu, becoming stationary by late Thu. Moderate southwest winds will precede this front, but diminish to gentle speeds on Thu. Gentle west to northwest winds will follow this front. These features will keep unsettled weather over much of the northern and central Gulf through at least the middle part of the upcoming week, with scattered showers and thunderstorms, some with strong gusty winds and frequent lightning likely to occur over these waters. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A weak ridge north of the area will support moderate to locally fresh trade winds across most of the Caribbean during the next several days. Fresh to strong trades are expected in the south-central Caribbean through Thu night along with waveheights peaking to around 9 or 10 ft. The exception will within 90 nm of the coast of Colombia where northeast to east winds of 25-30 kt are expected for late tonight and to around daybreak on Mon. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... High pressure ridging that extends from a strong 1033 mb high center located well to the northeast of the region southwestward to the Straits of Florida and western will change little through the next few days as broad low pressure area over the southern United States slowly moves eastward. This synoptic setup will allow for gentle to moderate southerly winds to continue over the area during this time. A weak cold front will reach the southeastern United States Tue and become stationary. Low pressure will form along the front over the Florida panhandle late on Tue, and quickly track northeastward over the southeastern United through Wed night and along the eastern seaboard by Thu night. Fresh southwest winds will develop over the far northwest waters Wed night and diminish to mainly moderate winds on Thu. Unsettled weather will be the main issue affecting most of the forecast waters well into the upcoming week as abundant deep atmospheric moisture remains entrenched over the region. Expect numerous showers and thunderstorms, some with strong gusty winds and frequent lightning to affect mainly the western half of the forecast waters through the next few days. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
