000 AGXX40 KNHC 011809 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 209 PM EDT Wed May 1 2019 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A trough currently east of the Florida Peninsula will move northwestward, reaching the eastern Gulf Thu, and gradually weakening by Fri. Otherwise, high pressure northeast of the area will support generally moderate to fresh winds through Thu, except enhanced winds northwest of the Yucatan Peninsula because of the daily development of a trough across the peninsula. The high pressure will weaken this weekend allowing for SE return flow to diminish slightly over the central and western Gulf. Ongoing agricultural fires are generating widespread smoke which could reduce visibility over the western Gulf and the Bay of Campeche. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... The Bermuda High well north of the area and low pressure over Colombia will support enhanced NE to E tradewinds in the central Caribbean and Gulf of Honduras through the rest of the week. Winds will diminish slightly by this weekend as high pressure weakens and the pressure gradient slackens. The NE trades are also enhanced today by the moderate pressure gradient over the waters east of the Windward Islands but are expected to weaken by late Thu. No significant long-period swell is anticipated over the tropical N Atlantic for the next several days. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A surface trough enhancing winds and seas over the central and NW Bahamas will move toward the northwest and exit the marine areas late Thu. The Bermuda High will weaken and drift eastward Fri through Sun, allowing the tradewinds to diminish and seas to subside. No significant long-period swell is anticipated to impact the Atlantic waters for the next several years. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
