000 AGXX40 KNHC 080806 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 406 AM EDT Mon Apr 8 2019 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... As of 06Z, a cold front extends from low pressure of 1010 mb located over eastern Texas near 31N96W to the Houston/Galveston area, then to 26N94W and to near 23N97W. Very active weather in the form of numerous showers and strong thunderstorms, with frequent lightning and strong gusty winds, is out ahead of the front within 60 nm either side of a line from near 30N89W to 27N91W and to 25N97W. Similar activity associated with a squall line is within 30 nm either side of a line from Pensacola to 28N88W. Stratiform precipitation is within 60-120 nm to the west of the first mentioned line of shower and thunderstorm activity. High pressure extends from the Atlantic to the Gulf waters east of these showers and thunderstorms, while a relatively weak pressure gradient is analyzed elsewhere. The trough that moved off the W coast of the Yucatan Peninsula is along 93W south of 24N. The cold front will reach from southwestern Louisiana to 25N95W and to near Veracruz later this morning, from near southeastern Louisiana to 25N90W and to just inland Mexico near 18N94W early this evening, from near Destin, Florida to 25N88W and to near 18N93W late tonight, from just north of Tampa to 24N86W and weakening from there to 19N92W by early Tue evening. The front will then begin to weaken to a trough as it moves across the remainder of the eastern Gulf early on Wed, expected to exit the area Wed afternoon. The gradient between the front and a weak high pressure center that will move from west to east over the far southern Gulf waters should allow for fresh to strong southwest to west winds to materialize within about 240 nm west of the front and north of 28N this evening. These winds will follow in behind the front through early Tue evening while diminishing. Before they diminish, seas are expected to peak to 8 ft with them. The shower and thunderstorm ahead of the front will translate eastward across the Gulf mainly north 26N beginning tonight, but decrease some in coverage as supporting upper-level energy shifts east-northeast away from the region. On Thu, weak high pressure will be over the eastern Gulf, while a weak front approaches the Texas coast. This front is expected to become stationary along or just offshore the Texas coast Thu through Fri night. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... High pressure to the north of the region will support fresh to strong trade winds across the south-central Caribbean through Tue, reaching near gale force off the coast of Colombia again tonight. An Ascat pass from last night showed strong to near gale force winds across the Gulf of Honduras. These winds are forecast to diminish to mainly strong winds later this morning, and diminish to fresh winds early this afternoon. The gradient resulting from this pattern will also support pulsing fresh to strong winds at night in the Gulf of Honduras tonight before diminishing to gentle to moderate winds through Thu, and increasing to fresh to strong winds on Thu night. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... High pressure over the area will gradually shift east-southeast in response to approaching low pressure currently west of the area over eastern Texas. The low pressure will track northeastward from eastern Texas to the southeastern U.S. by Tue night, with the associated cold front expected to move across the northwest section of the forecast waters early on Wed. The cold front will reach from near 31N70W to West Palm Beach, FL by Wed night, from near 31N65W to 26N74W and dissipating stationary front southern Florida early Thu and dissipate by late Thu night. Fresh to strong southwest winds and seas possibly reaching to 8 ft are expected over the northern waters east of the front, while mainly moderate south to southwest winds are expected elsewhere east of the front. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will preceded this cold front. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
