High pressure across the northern Gulf will shift east today ahead of a cold front moving off the Texas coast this evening. The front is forecast to reach a position from northern Florida to the central Bay of Campeche Sun evening, and extend from southern Florida to the N of the Yucatan Peninsula near 22N90W on Mon evening. Fresh to strong northerly winds and building seas will follow the front over the western Gulf on Sun. Winds are forecast to reach minimal gale force across the west-central Gulf by Sun afternoon, and across the SW Gulf by Sun night. Expect building seas of up to 12 or 13 ft within the area of gale force winds. Then, winds and seas will gradually diminish through early next week as the front shifts southeast of the area. A Gale warning is already in effect for forecast zones GMZ017 and GMZ023. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A weak trough extending from Hispaniola near 19N70W to 16N80W will dissipate today. High pressure N of the area will support fresh to strong NE to E winds near the coast of Colombia at night beginning Sun night, with seas building to 8 to 10 ft during the period of the strongest winds. Otherwise, generally moderate trade winds will persist across the Caribbean and tropical Atlantic west of 55W through the middle of next week. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front reaching from 1015 mb low pressure near 30N65W to Hispaniola near 19N70W will gradually stall and weaken through tonight as the low pressure continues to move northeast of the area, allowing winds and seas to diminish accordingly. High pressure will build off the U.S. east coast in the wake of the low through Sun, then continue E ahead of the next cold front expected to move off the NE Florida coast by Sun evening. A low pressure is forecast to develop along the frontal boundary near 30N77W by Mon evening.
