Strong high pressure continues to build across the region. Strong NE winds in the southern half of the Gulf of Mexico, and strong to near gale-force NW to N winds in the far SW Gulf of Mexico gradually will diminish into Thursday morning. The high pressure will shift to east of the region by late Friday night. Fresh to locally strong southeast to south return flow will set up over much of the western and central Gulf waters on Friday night and Saturday. A weak cold front is expected to move into the NW Gulf of Mexico early on Sunday, and it will reach from the NE corner of the area to 28N90W, where it will become stationary into northeastern Mexico on Monday. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A weakening stationary front extends from SE Cuba near 21N78W to 20N82.5W to the coast of Belize near 17.5N88W. The front is forecast to dissipate on Thursday. Strong high pressure, building across the waters behind the front, will tighten the pressure gradient in the Caribbean Sea. Trade winds in the central Caribbean Sea will be enhanced through early next week. The resultant strong pressure gradient will bring gale-force NE to E winds along the coast of Colombia during the nighttime hours, beginning on Thursday and expected to continue into early next week. No large long-period swell will impact the tropical N Atlantic Ocean during the next several days. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front extends from near 26N65W to SE Cuba. The front will continue to move eastward. The front will be stationary on Thursday night, and it will reach from 25N65W to SE Cuba. The stationary front will be weakening on Friday night, from 25N65W to SE Cuba. The front eventually will dissipate along the same line by Saturday night. High pressure will build into the area behind the front, and it will shift eastward during the next few days. A weak cold front is expected to move into the far NW waters on Monday.
