000 AGXX40 KNHC 231931 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 231 PM EST Sat Feb 23 2019 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... High pressure extending from the western Atlantic to the N central Gulf waters will weaken through the remainder of this afternoon and early evening as a cold front, that is presently just inland and along the Texas coast early this afternoon, pushes offshore to the far western Gulf. A pre-frontal trough is 60 nm within to the east of the trough. Radar imagery is revealing scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms along the pre-frontal trough. Current surface observations are showing a sharp wind shift of moderate winds from south-southwest to northwest behind the front. The front is forecast to reach from southeastern Louisiana to near 27N94W and to near Tampico by early this evening, from near Apalachicola to 26N91W and to the SW Gulf near 20N97W by early on Sun and from near Fort Myers to 24N89W and to the coast of Mexico near 18N94W by Sun evening. The front will then stall and begin to weaken from the Florida Keys to the SW Gulf of Mexico on Mon. Gale force northwest to north winds and seas of up to 11 or 12 ft are expected west of the front over a small section of the SW Gulf from early Sun evening through Sun night. The frontal remnants will lift back to the north as a warm front over the central and eastern Gulf on Tue and to inland the coast by Wed night. High pressure from the Atlantic settle back in over the area Wed and Thu providing for a generally light wind regime across the forecast waters. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... High pressure north of the region will maintain fresh to strong trade winds across the central Caribbean and Gulf of Honduras during the next several days. Winds will increase to gale force along the coast of Colombia, through Wed. An Ascat pass from this morning depicted the western fringe of the gale force winds that were ongoing near the and along the coast of Colombia. Long period north to northeast swell will propagate through the Atlantic waters and Caribbean Passages east of 65W through Wed, then be replaced by a much expansive set of north swell through Thu. Wave model guidance indicates peak wave heights reaching to around 10 ft with this set of swell. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A 1026 mb high center near 28N68W, with a ridge extending southeastward into the central Atlantic will shift slowly southeastward through Sun night ahead of a cold front that will move off the northeast Florida coast by late Sun. The front will reach from near Bermuda to the Florida Keys by Mon afternoon, before stalling and weakening along roughly 26N through Tue night. High pressure north of the area will shift eastward Tue through Wed night as a trough approaches the southeastern U.S. Fresh to strong northeast to east winds are expected over much of the waters Tue through early Wed afternoon. Winds then become mainly southerly to the north of about 26N Wed night as a cold front approaches the southeastern U.S. coast. Present indications from majority of the models are that this front will move across the far northwest part of the area on Thu. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO... .GMZ023...SW GULF S OF 22N W OF 94W...
