A cold front extends from Panama City Florida to Ciudad del Carmen Mexico. A line of showers and thunderstorms is active ahead of the front, over the northeast Gulf north of 24N. An earlier scatterometer pass indicated southerly winds reaching gale force over the northeast Gulf north of 24N as well. Farther west, fresh to strong northerly winds prevail, reaching near gale force off the coast of Veracruz. Seas are 10 to 15 ft over the western Gulf. The front will continue to move across the Gulf waters, shifting east of the area late today. Winds and seas diminish across the Gulf through tonight as high pressure builds in the wake of the front. Winds and seas will increase Sat into Sun over the southern Gulf as another frontal boundary moves through the basin. High pressure builds across the basin early next week. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A 02 UTC scatterometer pass captured winds to gale force persisting off the coast of Colombia. This is due to strong high pressure north of the region over the western Atlantic. Fresh to strong trade winds persist elsewhere. The high pressure will shift east ahead of a cold front moving into the western Atlantic from the Gulf of Mexico. The gales will persist off Colombia into this morning then diminish, as will the area of strong trade winds. A cold front will move into the northwest Caribbean late today, then stall and dissipate from central Cuba to the Gulf of Honduras by late Fri. NW swell moving into Atlc waters off the Leeward Islands will subside through Fri. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Strong southerly winds are noted in buoy and ship observations north of the Bahamas and off northeast Florida. Fresh to strong SE winds are noted over most of the remainder of the area with 8 to 12 ft seas in open waters. The southerly winds north of the Bahamas will increase to gale force north of 29N later this morning ahead of a cold front moving off Florida this morning. The gales will persist north of 29N west of 74W into the evening. The front will stall and dissipate from Bermuda to eastern Cuba by Sat, ahead of a reinforcing front moving into the region. The second front will stall from Bermuda to the Straits of Florida by late Sun.
