A recent scatterometer pass provided observations of gale force northerly winds behind a cold front currently moving across the western Gulf waters. Gale conditions will persist behind the front through tonight, with seas building to 13-14 ft across the SW Gulf. Strong southerly winds are also noted ahead of the front, forecast to reach a position from the Florida Big Bend to the eastern Bay of Campeche tonight. Winds and seas will diminish across the Gulf on Thu as the front moves southeast of the region. Looking ahead, energy associated with a jet stream crossing the northern Gulf may support the developing of a low pressure system across the region during the upcoming weekend. This could bring increasing winds and building seas across the Gulf waters Sun through Mon. A 1358 UTC scatterometer pass confirmed the presence of gale force winds near the coast of Colombia, particularly from 10.5N- 13N between 74W-77W. Elsewhere, fresh to strong trades dominate most of the Caribbean waters. High pressure north of the area will maintain strong NE winds over much of the Caribbean through Thu, with gales pulsing off Colombia through Thu night. A cold front is expected to move into the northwest Caribbean by late Thu, and will stall and dissipate from central Cuba to the Gulf of Honduras by late Fri. NW swell will move into Atlc waters off the Leeward Islands tonight, then subside as it shifts south through Fri. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS...
