000 AGXX40 KNHC 210757 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 257 AM EST Mon Jan 21 2019 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Fresh to strong winds and high seas over the SE Gulf south of 27N will subside through early Mon as strong high pressure ridging S from the central United States covers the entire basin. The high will shift E toward Cape Hatteras as low pressure deepens over the southern Plains. This will allow strong SE to S return flow to develop over the western Gulf of Mexico by Tue morning. The strong return flow will expand to the eastern Gulf of Mexico by Tue night. Another strong cold front is expected to move across the NW Gulf of Mexico Wed morning, with the possibility of gale force N winds occurring behind it over the far western Gulf from S Texas to the coast of Mexico near Veracruz. This front will reach from near the NE Gulf to the Yucatan Peninsula early Thu, then weaken as it exits the SE Gulf Thu night followed by fresh to strong N winds. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Fresh to strong trade winds will continue over the south-central Caribbean through Wed night. The winds will increase to at or near gale force along the immediate coast of Colombia each night through Thu night. Moderate to locally fresh trade winds will prevail elsewhere. A strong cold front crosses the NW Caribbean from SE Cuba near 21N79W to 19N80.5W to NE Honduras near 16N 84.5W. The front is stalling and will begin to weaken and drift north from Cuba westward Tue morning and Tue night. Strong high pres building over the western Atlc will increase the pressure gradient over the basin Tue through Fri. This will result in strong trades over most of the eastern and central Caribbean. Gap winds will affect the lee of Cuba and through the Mona and Windward passages, especially on Wed and Thu. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A strong cold front extending from 31N68W to the SE Bahamas near 23N75W to eastern Cuba near 21N77W. Gales along this front have lifted N of 31N. will push SE and reach from near 31N60W to 26N75W to eastern Cuba near 21N75W by late tonight. The front will continue heading E and extend from 31N50W to 24N56W to 21N64W Tue night. The western portion of the front will stall and continue W to near the Windward Passage. The front will remain stalled from near 21N55W to Hispaniola Wed evening. Strong winds will develop between the front and 25N on Tue as strong high pressure builds north of the front. These winds will persist until Thu as the strong high following the front slowly shifts E over the western Atlc north of the area. The next cold front is expected to move off the Florida coast on Thu afternoon, reach from near 31N70W to the central Bahamas and to central Cuba Fri afternoon, and from near 31N69W to the SE Bahamas and eastern Cuba Fri night followed by strong NW to N winds and building seas. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO... .GMZ017...W CENTRAL GULF FROM 22N TO 26N W OF 94W...
