000 AGXX40 KNHC 101957 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 257 PM EST Thu Jan 10 2019 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A cold front extends from the northwestern Caribbean Sea, to inland the northern Yucatan Peninsula, to over the Bay of Campeche roughly along 21N and to inland Mexico just south of Tampico as of 18Z this afternoon. Satellite imagery shows a stratocumulus cloud field over the southeastern Gulf that is advancing southward in moderate cold air advection that is following in behind the cold front over much of the Gulf, with resultant clear skies noted east of a line from 27N97W to 24N93W to 22N88W. Broken low and mid-level clouds with possible isolated showers are west of the this, mainly along and near the front. The western portion of the cold front over the Bay of Campeche will become stationary late tonight into early Fri and dissipate by Fri evening. The remainder of the cold front will continue to push southward over the northwestern Caribbean Sea and well away from the Gulf through Fri morning. High pressure will build over the Gulf in the wake of the front Fri. The next cold front will move across the NW Gulf Sat. This front will reach from northeast Florida to near Cedar Key, to near 26N90W, to near 22N96W and to 19N86W by early Sun night, then move southeast of the area Mon. High pres will build eastward across the area in the wake of this front. A tight gradient between the high and the leftover trough (the weaken western part of the front) over the southwestern Gulf is expected to result in mainly strong northwest winds over the far western portion of the western and southwestern Gulf Mon through Tue night, with seas to around 9 ft. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A cold front extending from central Cuba to inland the northern Yucatan Peninsula will weaken as it continues to push south- southeastward over the northwestern Caribbean through Fri morning. Fresh northerly winds behind the front will diminish to light to moderate winds Fri afternoon. Fresh winds over the far south central Caribbean will begin to strengthen Sat and begin to expand in coverage Sun night through Tue. Long-period N swell, with seas peaking to around 7 ft, will propagate through the Atlantic waters through Sat night, then subside into early next week. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front extending from near 31N64W to 26N70W, to across the central Bahamas and to central Cuba and to the northwestern Caribbean Sea will reach from near 24N65W to northern Haiti Fri, where it will become stationary and become diffuse by late Sat. The next cold front will move across the northwest waters Sun night and reach from near 31N70W to the central Bahamas to west- central Cuba Mon night and from near 31N66W to near 25N73W and to eastern Cuba by late Tue.
