000 AGXX40 KNHC 092007 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 307 PM EST Wed Jan 9 2019 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A cold front extending from near Naples, Florida to 25N91W and to inland NE Mexico will reach from western Cuba to near the northern Yucatan Peninsula tonight, with its western portion extending northwestward across the southwestern Gulf. This portion of the front will become stationary and gradually dissipate by late Thu night. High pres will build in the wake of the front through Fri. A weak surface to low-level trough is analyzed to the southeast of the cold front over the far southeastern Gulf from 25N83W to just northeast of the Yucatan Peninsula as supported by the 1526Z Ascat pass and a few ship observations. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are seen from 22N to 24N between 82W and 85W. The trough is forecast to continue to be steered southward towards western Cuba by the northerly flow present over the area through late tonight while gradually losing its identity. The next cold front is expected to move into the NW Gulf on Sat. This front will reach from near central Florida to 22N96W to 19N86W Sun night, and similarly to the forecast of the present one it will move east of the Gulf Mon, with it western portion to extend west-northwestward across the northern Yucatan Peninsula and to the southwestern Gulf Mon. Strong high pres will build eastward over the area in the wake of this front. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Fresh to strong winds over the far south central Caribbean will begin to expand in coverage late Sat through Mon night. The highest winds are expected near the coast of Colombia at night. Long-period N swell, with seas maxing up to around 7 ft, will propagate through the Atlantic waters through Sat night, then subside through Mon night. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front extending from near 31N72W to West Palm beach will reach from Bermuda to central Cuba Thu, and from near 24N65W to northern Haiti Fri, where it will stall and become diffuse by late Sat. High pres will build in the wake of the front, but begin to shift eastward through Mon in response to low pres that will strengthen as it tracks east-northeast across the southeastern United States. This low will push the next cold front across the NW waters from Sun through Mon.
