A stationary front extends from SE Louisiana to a weak low near 27N95W to the coast of Mexico near 21N97W. Surface observations and scatterometer data show fresh NE winds north of the front along the Texas coast near Galveston. The remainder of the Gulf has mostly 10-15 kt E to SE winds and 2-4 ft seas. Reinforcing cold air will push the front eastward this afternoon, to extend from Mobile AL to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec tonight, and from central FL to the Yucatan peninsula Fri night, then sweep SE of the Gulf Sat. Fresh to strong winds will follow the front across the western Gulf Thu night and Fri. Winds and seas will diminish Fri night and Sat as high pressure builds west of the front. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Scatterometer data at 0248 UTC showed a large area of 25-30 kt winds in the central Caribbean, and 32-38 kt gale force winds from 11N to 14N NW of Colombia, with 12-15 ft seas sampled from altimeter data. Broad high pressure across the west-central Atlc will maintain fresh to strong winds across much of the Caribbean through Fri, with winds expected to fall below gale force near the coast of Colombia this morning. Winds and seas will diminish later in the week as the high weakens and shifts eastward.
