Recent observations and scatterometer satellite data indicate fresh to strong winds persist across all but the far northern extent of the Gulf of Mexico this morning, follow a cold front which swept south of the area earlier. Seas are reaching as high as 9 to 10 ft mainly in the east central and southwest Gulf. Winds and seas will diminish through Tue as high pres builds in the wake of the front through midweek. The next cold front will move into the NW Gulf Thu, quickly reaching the eastern Gulf late Thu night, pushing SE of the Basin Fri Night. Strong winds will follow the front, possibly reaching gale force Thu night over the northwest Gulf. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Strong northerly winds follow a cold front moving into the northwest Caribbean, currently reaching from western Cuba to northern Belize. Fresh to strong trade winds persist across the central Caribbean as well. Seas are general 4 to 6 ft across the Caribbean, with 5 to 7 ft in easterly swell over the tropical north Atlantic west of 55W. The trades will prevail through Fri night, pulsing to near gale off the coast of Colombia at night. The cold front will reach from near the Windward Passage to eastern Honduras by Tue night where it will stall and dissipate through Thu. Fresh to strong winds will prevail behind the front through early Wed. Another cold front may enter the NW Caribbean late Fri, followed by strong northerly winds over the northwest Caribbean into Sat. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Strong to near gale force winds follow a cold front from 31N69W to central Cuba. Strong SW winds are noted in ship, buoy and scatterometer observations ahead of the front north of 28N. Seas are as high as 14 ft north of 28N west of the front. Light to moderate southerly flow prevails south of the front, with 4 to 6 ft seas in open waters. The front will shift east across the basin through Wed. A reinforcing cold front will move across the northern waters Tue, with the two boundaries merging by Wed. Gale winds are expected N of 29N and E of 70W with the next front Tue night.
