A cold front extends from Ft Myers, FL to the central Bay of Campeche. Recent scatterometer and surface data show fresh to strong NE winds north of the front. Although 30 kt winds are still likely near the Veracruz coast of Mexico overnight, model guidance no longer shows gale force winds, and the gale warning for this area of the Gulf has been discontinued. The front will reach from the Florida Keys to the Yucatan peninsula later today then move SE of the Gulf tonight. Southerly return flow ahead of the next cold front will increase across the NW Gulf on Fri, and strengthen Fri night as a low pressure system develops over SE Texas. This low will track eastward along the U.S. gulf coast this weekend, with strong S to SW winds expected ahead of the cold front. Model guidance is in good agreement with the synoptic feature, and indicate 30 kt winds are likely in the northern Gulf and its coastal waters Sat and Sun. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Scatterometer data shows fresh to strong E-NE winds in the south- central Caribbean, with the strongest winds along the coast of Colombia near 12N75W. A cold front in the Gulf of Mexico will reach the NW Caribbean late tonight, then stall and weaken from eastern Cuba to northern Honduras on Thu. Winds will diminish somewhat in the south-central Caribbean today as the front moves closer. Building high pressure north of the area late Thu through Sat will allow fresh to strong winds to redevelop near Colombia. Also expect fresh to strong NE winds south of Cuba overnight. Moderate to fresh trades will continue E of the Lesser Antilles through the weekend. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front extending across the forecast area from 31N69W to Palm Beach FL will reach from 30N65W across the Bahamas to northern Cuba tonight. Reinforcing cold air will support fresh N-NW winds behind the front through Thu morning. The front will stall and weaken Thu night through Sat. A developing low pressure system across the southern U.S. will drag a strong cold front off the coast of northern Florida on Sun.
