A cold front extends from Sarasota, FL to the central Bay of Campeche. Scattered showers and tstms are along the front in the Bay of Campeche, and also E of 89W. Winds and seas could be higher near tstms. Recent scatterometer and surface data show fresh to strong northerly winds in the wake of the front, forecast to reach from SW Florida to the eastern Bay of Campeche later today. Strong high pressure behind the front will bring fresh to strong northerly winds to much of the Gulf waters the rest of today through Wed evening. Frequent gusts to gale force are also possible. Then, winds are forecast to reach minimal gale force near Veracruz, Mexico Tue night into early Wed morning. The front will extend from SE Florida to just N of the Yucatan Peninsula tonight, then move SE of the area by late Wed. Looking ahead, southerly return flow will increase to 20-25 kt across the NW Gulf by Fri, and to 25-30 kt across much of the area N of 22N W of 88W by Fri night. This will occur ahead of the next cold front forecast to enter the region late Fri night into Sat morning. Winds may reach gale force ahead of the front by Sat morning as a low pressure develops along the frontal boundary over eastern Texas, and tracks ENE across the northern Gulf states. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Fresh to strong trades continue in the south-central Caribbean, with the strongest winds of 25-30 kt near the coast of Colombia. A cold front, currently moving across the Gulf of Mexico, will reach the NW Caribbean by late Wed, and extend from eastern Cuba to near Cozumel, Mexico by Thu morning, then will gradually dissipate by Fri morning as it reaches from Camaguey, Cuba to the coast of Quintana Roo, in the Yucatan Peninsula near 19N78W. The movement of the front across the NW Caribbean will cause winds to diminish some over the south-central Caribbean on Wed. Building high pressure in the wake of the front will allow fresh to strong winds to redevelop across the south-central Caribbean Thu through Sat night. Expect also fresh to strong NE winds in the lee of Cuba Wed night into Thu. Moderate to fresh trades will prevail E of the Lesser Antilles most of the forecast period. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front extends from 31N73W to near Melbourne, FL. The front will reach from 31N66W to SE Florida tonight, and from 30N65W to Straits of Florida by Wed morning. A reinforcing push of cold air will support fresh N-NW winds behind the front Wed through Thu morning. The front will reach from 28N65W to the SE Bahamas on Thu, then stall and weaken Thu night through Sat. The remnants of the front are expected to lift N Sat night and Sun as another cold front moves across the Gulf of Mexico. Winds will begin to increase across the NW, and then north-central waters by Sat night. Marine guidance suggests southerly winds of 20-30 kt with seas building to 8-11 ft on Sun.
