000 AGXX40 KNHC 130812 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 312 AM EST Tue Nov 13 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Recent buoy, platform, and scatterometer data show gale force NW to N winds over much of the northwest Gulf, following a cold front currently reaching from near Pensacola Florida to Poza Rica Mexico. A few showers and thunderstorms are noted within 60 nm of the front. The front will move to the W Florida Panhandle to western Bay of Campeche Tue morning. The gale force northerly winds behind the front are spreading south from the Texas coastal waters to the Mexican waters, and will follow the front into the SW Gulf by early morning, with storm force winds pulsing offshore of Veracruz through the morning. The front will then reach from near Apalachee Bay Florida to the northern Yucatan Peninsula early Wed, and move SE of the Gulf early Thu. Winds and seas will then gradually decrease through the end of the week. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A persistent upper low is centered over the Virgin Islands this morning. Divergence aloft on the east side of the upper low continues to support a surface trough from 21N60W to 16N63W, along with clusters of showers and thunderstorms along and east of the Leeward Islands. Fresh trade winds and easterly swell of 8 to 10 ft will dominate the tropical north Atlantic waters east of the Leeward and Windward Islands starting mid week in the wake of the trough. Meanwhile high pressure off the US east coast is supporting moderate to fresh trade winds over much of the Caribbean, with areas of fresh to strong winds pulsing in the Windward Passage, south of Hispaniola, and off the central coast of Colombia. These winds will diminish just ahead of a cold front entering the Yucatan Channel and northwest Caribbean by late Wed. Strong winds and building seas will follow the front over the far northwest Caribbean to the Bay Islands of Honduras by early Thu. Fresh northerly winds and seas to 8 ft will spread across the northwest Caribbean through Fri behind the front as it stalls and weakens from eastern Cuba to eastern Honduras through Sat. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Fresh to strong E to SE winds persist north of 29N, north of a dissipated frontal boundary. Fresh to occasionally strong easterly winds along with seas to 9 ft are noted north of the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico, ahead of a surface trough moving into the region. The trough will move westward, reaching the Turks and Caicos Islands by late Wed, and through the southern Bahamas by late Thu. Low pressure may form along the trough as it reaches the Bahamas just as a cold front moves off the northeast coast of Florida. The low pressure will recurve northward east of the central Bahamas Fri ahead of the cold front. By late Fri, the low/trough will be north of the area, with the cold front reaching from Bermuda to eastern Cuba. Seas of 8 to 10 ft will dominate the waters east of the Bahamas from mid week through Sat with fresh to strong southerly flow east of the low pressure area. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO... .GMZ011...NW GULF INCLUDING STETSON BANK...
