000 AGXX40 KNHC 120655 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 155 AM EST Mon Nov 12 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A warm front extends from 26N87W to low pres near 27N97W 1011 mb then becomes a stationary front to 18.5N94W. Strong east winds are observed in buoy, platform, and scatterometer data north of the front along the northern coast of Texas and western coast of Louisiana. The front will weaken and lift N and inland by sunrise, allowing winds to diminish. A strong cold front will move into the NW Gulf late this afternoon and reach from the W Florida Panhandle to western Bay of Campeche Tue morning. Winds will quickly increase to gale force behind the front late today and tonight with storm force winds developing offshore of Veracruz Tue morning through mid afternoon. The front will then reach from near Apalachee Bay Florida to the northern Yucatan peninsula early Wed, and move SE of the Gulf early Thu. Winds and seas will gradually by the end of the week as the front exits the basin. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Increasing thunderstorms, strong gusty winds and building seas will accompany a tropical wave along 57W as it moves across the Tropical Atlc waters and toward the Lesser Antilles overnight. An earlier scatterometer pass indicated 20 to 25 kt winds on the northern end of the tropical wave, about 240 nm NE of Guadeloupe. These strong winds, seas and related thunderstorms will move north of the area through today as a trough splits off the northern end of the tropical wave. Meanwhile the tropical wave will drift into the eastern Caribbean late today, and reach the central Caribbean by mid week. Fresh trade winds and easterly swell will push west of 55W in the tropical north Atlantic waters behind the tropical wave. Elsewhere, high pres N of the area will support pulses of fresh to strong winds across the Windward Passage, over adjacent waters of the SW Dominican Republic and along the coast of Colombia through Tue. A strong cold front will bring fresh to strong N winds and seas to 12 ft into the Yucatan Channel and the NW Caribbean Wed night through Thu night. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A stationary front extends from 31N65W across the northern Bahamas to near Pompano Beach Florida. Fresh to strong winds are noted north of the front and east of 77W. The front will remain nearly stationary overnight then will drift N of the area late through early Tue. Another cold front will enter the NW portion late Wed night, reaching from near 31N72W to the central Bahamas and central Cuba late Thu night. Farther east, a trough splitting off a tropical wave along 57W will move to the NW of the Leeward Islands today. The tropical wave has migrated into the an area of strong upper divergence on the east side of a sharp upper trough along roughly 63W. While the divergence is supporting copious convection on the north side of the tropical wave, it is also imparting strong SW shear which has so far been preventing further organization. The upper trough may weaken and drift west through mid week, and low pressure may form along a trough splitting off the northern portion of the tropical wave, as the trough moves to the north of Puerto Rico and Hispaniola Tue and Wed, eventually turning N along 70W through the remainder of the week as the next cold front approaches. This will bring increased winds and seas to the open waters east of the Bahamas through late week. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO... .GMZ011...NW GULF INCLUDING STETSON BANK...
