000 AGXX40 KNHC 201937 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 337 PM EDT Sat Oct 20 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... The southern portion of a cold front pushing southeastward across the southeastern United States stretches southwestward to the far NW Gulf at 28N95W, where it transitions to a warm front to a 1017 mb low pressure at 27N96W. A trough extends from the low to 23N96W and to near 19N95W. Another cold front currently approaching northeastern Texas and southern Arkansas will catch up and merge with the remainder of the leading cold front tonight as the then merged front pushes into the northern Gulf. The cold front will sweep across the eastern and central Gulf waters tonight and become stationary from S Florida to 26N93W and warm front to a new 1017 mb low at 26N97W. A cold front will extend from the low to 24N96W, and become stationary from there to Mexico near Tampico. The present 1017 mb low over the NW Gulf will dissipate late tonight over the north-central Gulf. The expected new Low will lift north-northeastward through Mon night, then east-northeastward across the north-central Gulf through Wed night and the NE Gulf Thu, with a front to trail from it to the SW Gulf and from the low eastward across N-central Florida. High pressure will build across the southeastern United States to the waters north of the low and front, and also behind the trailing front. The ensuing gradient will support fresh to strong NE to E winds and building over the waters north of the low and front east of 93W, and fresh to strong NW winds over the far western waters west of the trailing front. Upper-level disturbances riding along a subtropical jetstream branch that extends from the eastern Pacific to across Texas and the far NW Gulf will bring unsettled weather in the form of numerous showers and thunderstorms and patches of rain across much of the western Gulf through Wed and scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected over the north- central Gulf. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Fresh to strong NE winds will pulse in and adjacent to the Windward Passage, south of Hispaniola through Tue. Fresh to strong NE winds near the coast of Colombia will diminish to mainly fresh winds Sun afternoon, and change little through Tue night before diminishing to light to moderate winds Wed through Thu night. Elsewhere, moderate to fresh trades will continue through early Wed, then diminish to the gentle intensity through Thu night. A tropical wave along 53W this afternoon will move across the tropical N Atlantic waters will reach the far eastern Caribbean Mon while slowing down. It will move across the rest of the eastern Caribbean through Thu, followed by east to southeast gentle to moderate winds. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A weakening stationary front extending from 26N65W to 27N74W will dissipate this evening. A strong cold front will move off NE Florida this evening, reach from near 31N70W to 27N75W and to near West Palm Beach Sun afternoon, from near 31N64W to 26N72W and to Miami late Sun night, and from 26N65W to the NW Bahamas and the Florida Keys by Mon evening then become stationary. Fresh to strong winds and building seas are expected behind this front through late Mon as strong high pressure slides eastward off the Unites States coast.
