Major Hurricane Michael has moved ashore as a strong Cat 4 hurricane near 30.1N 85.6W moving NNE at 15 kt. Michael will accelerate off to the NE tonight. Strong onshore flow and large wave action will combine with storm surge along and to the E of landfall to produce major coastal flooding and beach erosion next several hours. Conditions will gradually improve in the NE Gulf Thu through Fri as Michael moves quickly towards the Cape Hatteras and Tidewater areas.
