A broad area of low pressure in the central gulf will shift NW during the next couple days. A recent scatterometer pass did not show much, if any, of a closed circulation at the surface. There has been some isolated convection developing during the past few hours, with no sign of organization yet. Even so, this area has a medium potential for tropical cyclone formation during the next 48 hours. Fresh to strong winds are still possible on the N-NE side of the area where the pressure gradient is locally tight. Broad ridging is forecast to extend from Louisiana to the S central Gulf in the wake of the area with fairly tranquil boating conditions anticipated for the remainder of the forecast period. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Tropical Storm Isaac 1006 mb is centered near 15.3N 58.8W at 2 AM EDT, moving W at around 17 kt. Maximum sustained winds are 40 kt with gusts to 50 kt. Isaac will move across the Lesser Antilles today, and is expected to gradually weaken as it moves further W across the Caribbean Sea through Mon. High winds and rough seas will be primarily N of the center.
