544 AGXX40 KNHC 120652 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 252 AM EDT Wed Sep 12 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A large upper low over the central Gulf is slowly moving westward across the region. A lower to mid level rotation has been evident north of the Yucatan peninsula, on the southeast side of the upper low. However, an earlier scatterometer pass showed only fresh SE winds across this area along a broad trough. A large area of showers and thunderstorms to the east and southeast of the upper low across the south central Gulf has largely diminished. Buoy and ship observations, along with the scatterometer pass, showed fresh SE winds from the northern coast of the Yucatan peninsula to the north central Gulf, where seas are reaching 8 ft. Gentle to moderate E to SE persist elsewhere with generally 3 to 5 ft wave heights. For the forecast, low pressure will likely form along the surface trough over the southern Gulf as it shifts northwest toward southern Texas through Sat, and may become a tropical cyclone before reaching the coast. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W...
