Divergent flow aloft between an upper ridge over Texas and an upper low over the western Atlantic north of the central Bahamas and east of Jacksonville Florida is supporting scattered showers and thunderstorms across much of the southeast and south central Gulf of Mexico this morning. A scatterometer pass from 0230 UTC indicated a surface trough may be forming over the loop current in an area of thunderstorms. This trough will persist through much of today then dissipate. Elsewhere gentle to moderate SE breezes persist governed by weak ridging over the southeast U.S. Little change is expected through Sat. Looking ahead, the northern extent of a tropical wave will move across the Bahamas Sun, through South Florida Mon and into the southeast Gulf late Mon into Tue. This will bring another round of showers and thunderstorms, and possibly increased winds over the northeast Gulf. Meanwhile, a surface trough will develop each evening over the Yucatan Peninsula before moving W and offshore into the SW Gulf during the overnight hours. A surge of moderate to fresh NE to E winds will accompany this trough each night. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Nocturnal winds will pulse to fresh to strong winds in the south-central Caribbean the next several nights. Gentle to moderate winds will prevail elsewhere. A tropical wave currently approaching Hispaniola will move through the western Caribbean by late Sun into early Mon, accompanied by active weather. A second tropical wave will pass west of 55W Sat, into the eastern Caribbean Sat night, and into the central Caribbean early next week. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS...
