A ridge continues to dominate the Gulf waters producing gentle to moderate E to SE winds, and seas in the 2-4 ft range based on latest altimeter passes. Little change in this weather pattern is expected through Sat. A surface trough will develop each evening over the Yucatan Peninsula before pushing offshore into the SW Gulf. A surge of moderate to fresh NE to E winds will accompany this trough. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Latest surface observations indicate fresh to strong winds over the south-central Caribbean, fresh winds over the north-central Caribbean, and gentle to moderate winds elsewhere across the basin as well as the tropical N Atlc forecast zones. Seas are in the 8-10 ft range over the south-central Caribbean based on altimeter data, 6-7 ft over the north-central Caribbean, and 3-5 ft elsewhere across the Caribbean waters. Over the tropical N Atlc forecast zones, seas are in the 4-6 ft range. The fresh to strong winds will prevail in the south- central Caribbean through Wed before diminishing. Gentle to moderate winds will prevail elsewhere. A tropical wave currently approaching the waters E of the Lesser Antilles will cross the Lesser Antilles early on Wed, and reach Puerto Rico early on Thu. This wave is forecast to bring fresh to locally strong easterly winds and seas to around 8 ft. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A ridge, with axis N of area, dominates the region. Latest surface observations indicate moderate to fresh winds S of 24N, and gentle to moderate winds N of 24N. Outside the Bahamas, seas are in the 4-6 ft range S of 24N, and 3-4 ft N of 24N. West of the Bahamas, seas are in the 1-3 ft range. High pres will prevail across the area through the forecast period, supporting moderate to fresh winds S of 24N and gentle to moderate winds N of 24N. The one exception is north of Hispaniola, including approach to the Windward Passage, where winds will pulse to fresh to strong at night through Sat, with seas building to 6-7 ft. Looking ahead, a tropical wave is forecast to move off the west coast of Africa on Thursday.
