High pressure over the SE CONUS extends a ridge across the Gulf waters producing gentle to moderate E to SE winds, and seas in the in the 1-3 ft range. The ridge will continue to dominate the area supporting gentle to moderate winds, with seas 4 ft or less. A surface trough will develop each evening over the Yucatan Peninsula before pushing offshore into the SW Gulf each night. A surge of moderate to fresh NE to E winds will accompany this trough, with building seas of 4 or 5 ft. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Recent scatterometer data reveal the presence of fresh to strong winds across much of the central Caribbean, light to gentle winds are over the western Caribbean, with moderate to fresh winds over the remainder of the basin. Over the tropical N Atlantic forecast zones, gentle to moderate winds prevail. The most recent altimeter pass indicated seas around 10 ft near the coast of Colombia, and seas of 6 to 8 ft across the remainder of the central Caribbean. The fresh to strong winds will prevail in the south-central Caribbean through Wed before diminishing. A tropical wave will approach the waters E of the Lesser Antilles on Tue, cross the Lesser Antilles early on Wed, and reach Puerto Rico early on Thu. This wave is forecast to bring fresh easterly winds and seas to around 8 ft. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A surface trough is moving across the NW Bahamas into Florida. Elsewhere, a ridge dominates the region. Latest surface observations indicate moderate to fresh winds S of 24N, and gentle to moderate winds N of 24N. Outside the Bahamas, seas are in the 4-6 ft range S of 24N, and 3-4 ft N of 24N. West of the Bahamas, seas are in the 1-3 ft range. The surface trough is forecast to move west of the area today. High pres will then prevail across the forecast area the remainder of the week, supporting gentle to moderate E to SE flow.
