A nocturnal trough will develop during the evening hours over the Yucatan Peninsula before pushing offshore into the SW Gulf each night. A surge of fresh to occasionally strong NE to E winds will accompany the trough. The trough will become weaker on Thu and cap the associated winds between moderate and fresh. A mid- level trough has induced a surface trough over the eastern Gulf. This trough extends from 31N85W to 28N91W. The trough is weakening as the mid-level trough pinches off and is forecast to drift NW inland and dissipate on Wed. as the Atlantic ridge builds westward across the northern Gulf waters Wed through Thu. Scattered showers and tstms, as well as light to gentle winds, and seas of 3 ft or less can be expected over the NE Gulf until the trough dissipates. Otherwise, high pressure ridging W from the Atlc along the northern Gulf Coast will generally support light to moderate E to SE winds over the remainder of the basin through Sat night. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Coverage of convection over the basin continues to be limited. Showers and thunderstorms are primarily confined S of 11N in the vicinity of the monsoon trough, which extends over Panama from the eastern Pacific to low pres over Colombia near 10N75W. A ridge extending across the western Atlantic will maintain fresh to locally strong winds over the south-central Caribbean, including the Gulf of Venezuela through Sat night. Moderate to fresh trades will generally prevail elsewhere, except for the NW Caribbean, where winds will be gentle to moderate. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A ridge N of the forecast waters will support fresh to strong winds along the N coast of Hispaniola and the approaches to the Windward Passage during the evening and overnight hours through Sat night. Otherwise, gentle to moderate anticyclonic flow will continue N of 23N, while moderate easterly winds will generally prevail S of 23N.
