020 AGXX40 KNHC 140605 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 205 AM EDT Tue Aug 14 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A nocturnal trough will develop during the evening hours over the Yucatan Peninsula before pushing offshore into the SW Gulf each night. A surge of fresh to occasionally strong NE to E winds will accompany the trough. The trough will become weaker toward the end of the week and cap the winds between moderate and fresh. A mid-level trough is inducing a surface trough over the eastern Gulf. This trough extends from 30N86W to 25N90W. The trough is forecast to drift westward while weakening as the Atlantic ridge builds westward across the northern Gulf waters Wed through Thu. Scattered showers and tstms, as well as light to gentle winds, and seas of 3 ft or less can be expected in the vicinity of the trough before it dissipates. Otherwise, high pressure ridging will generally support light to moderate E to SE winds over the remainder of the basin through Fri night with seas of 2 to 4 ft. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A ridge extending across the western Atlantic will maintain fresh to locally strong winds over the south-central Caribbean, including the Gulf of Venezuela through Fri, but mainly at night. Seas are forecast to build to around 8 ft. Moderate to fresh trades are expected elsewhere, except for the NW Caribbean, where winds will be light to moderate. Tropical waves will continue to move across the basin but have little impact on winds, seas or weather. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A high pressure, with a central pressure between 1022 and 1024 mb will persist over the NE waters during the next several days. By Fri, the high pressure will weaken as a surface trough reaches the SE waters. A ridge extending from this high pressure across the northern forecast waters will support fresh to locally strong winds along the N coast of Hispaniola and the approaches to the Windward Passage during the evening and night hours through tonight. Then, mainly moderate to fresh winds will prevail, with seas building to around 7 ft. Otherwise, gentle to moderate anticyclonic flow will continue N of 23N, while moderate easterly winds will generally prevail S of 23N. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
