A nocturnal trough will develop during the evening hours over the Yucatan Peninsula before pushing offshore into the SW Gulf each night. A surge of fresh to occasionally strong NE to E winds will accompany the trough. The troughs will become weaker by mid week and cap the winds between moderate and fresh. A mid- level trough is inducing a surface trough over the eastern Gulf. This trough extends from 25N85W to beyond 30N85W. The trough is forecast to drift W and weaken during the next 24 hours as the associated mid-level trough weakens as well, then finally dissipate Wed. Scattered showers and tstms can be expected in the vicinity of the rough before it dissipates. Otherwise, high pressure ridging will generally support light to moderate E to SE winds over the remainder of the basin through Fri night. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A ridge extending across the western Atlantic along 30N will maintain fresh to strong winds over the south-central Caribbean through Tue. Strong to minimal gale force winds along the coast of Colombia and Gulf of Venezuela have subsided to fresh to strong speeds. Winds and seas over the remainder of the Caribbean will subside as well through mid-week as the high pressure ridge over the western Atlantic and low pressure over northern South America gradually weaken. Moderate to fresh trades can be expected over the basin during the second half of the week, except for the NW Caribbean, where winds will be light to moderate. Fresh to locally strong trades will continue to pulse along the coast of Colombia N of 11N. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A ridge extending W along 30N this week will support fresh to locally strong winds along the N coast of Hispaniola and the approaches to the Windward Passage during the evening and night hours through Wed night, then the ridge will weaken and winds will subside but could become locally strong during the overnight hours Thu through Fri night. Winds and seas N of Hispaniola are forecasted to peak tonight with seas topping out around 8 ft.
