637 AGXX40 KNHC 130616 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 216 AM EDT Mon Aug 13 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A nocturnal trough will develop during the evening hours over the Yucatan Peninsula before pushing offshore into the SW Gulf each night. A surge of fresh to occasionally strong NE to E winds will accompany this trough. The trough will become weaker by mid-week and generate moderate to fresh NE to E winds. A mid- level trough is inducing a surface trough over the eastern Gulf. This trough is forecast to persist through Wed, then will drift westward across the Gulf waters the remainder of the week. Lift associated with these features will trigger scattered showers and tstms through mid week. Light to gentle winds can be expected in the vicinity of the trough with seas of 3 ft or less. Otherwise, a high pressure ridge will remain anchored near the northern Gulf Coast through the end of the week. The ridge will generally support light to moderate E to SE winds over the basin through the forecast period, with seas of 2 to 4 ft. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A recent scatterometer pass shows minimal gale force winds near the coast of Colombia, with a large area of fresh to strong winds over the central Caribbean. High pressure north of the area will continue to support fresh to strong winds over the south-central Caribbean through Tue. Then, winds and seas will diminish across the central Caribbean during mid-week as the high pressure ridge over the western Atlantic weakens slightly and low pressure over northern South America fills gradually. Tropical waves will continue to move across the basin but have little impact on winds, seas or weather. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A ridge, with axis across the north waters, will remain in place during the next several days and support fresh to locally strong winds along the N coast of Hispaniola and the approaches to the Windward Passage during the evening and overnight hours. Winds and seas N of Hispaniola are forecasted to peak this evening with seas building to around 8 ft. The ridge will weaken by mid week and allow the winds along the N coast of Hispaniola to subside slightly but fresh to strong winds are expected to continue in this area during the second half of the week. Otherwise, gentle to moderate anticyclonic flow will prevail N of 23N, while moderate easterly winds will generally prevail S of 23N. Expect seas of 2 to 4 ft N of 27N, 4 to 6 ft between 22N-27N E of the Bahamas, and 5-8 ft S of 22N E of Bahamas, with seas of 1-3 ft W of the Bahamas. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
