851 AGXX40 KNHC 121806 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 206 PM EDT Sun Aug 12 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A nocturnal trough moving W from the Yucatan peninsula will generate a surge of fresh to strong NE to E winds over the Bay of Campeche each night. The troughs will become weaker beginning the middle of the week and generate moderate to fresh NE to E winds. A mid- level trough is inducing surface troughing over the NE Gulf W of Florida. Lift associated with these features will trigger showers and thunderstorms in this area through mid week. Light to gentle winds can be expected in the vicinity of the trough. Otherwise, a high pressure ridge will remain anchored near the northern Gulf Coast through the end of the week. The ridge will generally support light to moderate ESE to SE return flow over the basin through the forecast period. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... High pressure north of the area will maintain fresh to strong winds over the south-central Caribbean through Tue. Sustained winds could reach minimal gale force along the coast of Colombia and Gulf of Venezuela tonight and Mon morning. Winds and seas over the Caribbean will subside during mid-week as the high pressure ridge over the western Atlantic weakens slightly and low pressure over northern South America fills gradually. Tropical waves will continue to move across the basin but have little impact on winds, seas or weather. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A ridge oriented from E to W will remain in place along 30N during the next several days and support fresh to locally strong winds along the N coast of Hispaniola and the approaches to the Windward Passage during the evening and overnight hours. Winds and seas N of Hispaniola are forecasted to be highest on Mon night when seas peak around 8 ft. The ridge will weaken by mid week and allow the winds along the N coast of Hispaniola to subside slightly but fresh to strong winds are expected to continue in this area during the second half of the week. Otherwise, gentle to moderate anticyclonic flow will prevail N of 23N, while moderate easterly winds will generally prevail S of 23N. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
