858 AGXX40 KNHC 101818 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 218 PM EDT Fri Aug 10 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Thunderstorms are ongoing over the southwest Gulf of Mexico this afternoon, possibly being enhanced as the northern portion of a tropical wave is moving across southern Mexico. This activity will gradually subside through tonight. An upper trough rotating across the southeast U.S. is supporting scattered showers and a few thunderstorm mostly over coastal waters from southeast Louisiana to central Tampa. Elsewhere 1019 mb high pressure remains anchored near 26N87W over the eastern Gulf. This is maintaining light to gentle winds across most of the basin, with seas 1 to 3 ft. Moderate to fresh SE return flow is likely over the western U.S. between high pressure over the eastern Gulf and lower pressure over Mexico. Little change is expected for the forecast elsewhere. A nocturnal trough moving off the Yucatan peninsula will induce a surge of fresh to strong NE to E winds in the Bay of Campeche each night. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... High pressure north of the area continues to support fresh to strong winds over the south central Caribbean. This trend will continue through early next week, modulated by tropical waves moving across the basin. A tropical wave moving over the Lesser Antilles will reach the central Caribbean late Sat, and pass W of the region early next week. A second tropical wave will approach the Leeward and Windward Islands Sun. Winds will approach near gale force Sun through Mon along the coast of Colombia as the pressure gradient tightens between the tropical waves, before diminishing Tue as the second tropical wave move westward across the basin. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Divergent flow aloft is supporting clusters of showers and thunderstorms mainly north of 29N and across the Bahamas. A surface ridge extends along 25N, maintaining light to gentle breezes over most of the basin, with 2 to 4 ft seas in open waters. The ridge will shift northward to 28N through early next week. This will allow moderate to fresh easterly flow south of mainly 22N by late Sat, pulsing to strong winds off the northern coast of Hispaniola to include the approaches to the Windward Passage at times. These pulses of stronger winds will mainly occur late in the day into the overnight hours from late Sat through mid week. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
