123 AGXX40 KNHC 100631 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 231 AM EDT Fri Aug 10 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Thunderstorms are active this morning in the Bay of Campeche, and a scatterometer pass revealed strong gusty winds associated with a surface trough that moves west off the Yucatan peninsula each night. Generally fair skies prevail elsewhere. Scatterometer data shows light breezes near a ridge axis along 26N, and moderate easterly flow over the southwest Gulf. Seas are 1 to 3 ft. High pressure ridging will prevail across the area through early next week, supporting moderate to fresh SE winds over the western and central Gulf. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Scatterometer data shows fresh trades in the central Caribbean, but the area of highest winds near the northern coast of Colombia and Gulf of Venezuela had no scatterometer coverage overnight. Fresh to strong winds in the Gulf of Honduras, and fresh winds over the Windward Passage are the result of strong ridging north of the area, modulated to some extent by the passage of tropical waves across the region. Seas are 8 to 11 ft in the south central Caribbean, and 5 to 7 ft elsewhere. No significant shower or thunderstorm activity is noted at this time. High pressure north of the area will support fresh to strong winds in the south central Caribbean the next several days. A tropical wave moving over the Lesser Antilles will reach the central Caribbean Sun, and pass west of the region on Tue. Another tropical wave will move into the eastern Caribbean on Mon. Winds will approach gale force Sun night and Mon morning NW of the Coast of Colombia as the pressure gradient tightens. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Scatterometer data shows light to gentle winds across much of the area, and buoy data indicates seas are generally 2-3 ft. A ridge along 26N is keeping winds light from 22N to 29N, with gentle to moderate winds elsewhere. The ridge will shift southward today ahead of a trough moving off the SE coast of the U.S. through Fri. The ridge will then move N to 28N through early next week. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
