High pressure of 1024 mb centered over the SE CONUS extends a ridge across the Gulf waters producing mainly gentle to moderate E to SE winds and seas of 2 to 4 ft. By Thu, winds will become light and variable over the NE Gulf as a trough reaches the SE CONUS and the high pressure moves toward Florida. A thermal trough will develop over the Yucatan Peninsula from the early evenings to overnight hours during the next several days. A surge of fresh to occasionally strong winds will be associated with this trough. The northern tip of a tropical wave may clip the Straits of Florida and southern Gulf through mid-week. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Recent scatterometer data, along with some ship and buoy observations indicate the presence of fresh to strong winds across the central Caribbean, with seas in the 6 to 9 ft range based on altimeter passes. Fresh to strong winds are expected in the S central Caribbean through the forecast period. These wind will expand in coverage while also intensifying slightly due to a tightening pressure gradient. Frequent gusts to gale force are forecast tonight in the Gulf of Venezuela and NW of the coast of Colombia with building seas to 11 or 12 ft. Then, gale force winds are expected in the Gulf of Venezuela, and also NW of the coast of Colombia on Tue night and Wed night. Seas will further build to 13 or 14 ft within the area of gale force winds, outside of the Gulf of Venezuela, by Wed morning. Fresh winds will pulse in the Gulf of Honduras the next several days. A tropical wave will move across the central Caribbean through the early part of the week with numerous showers and thunderstorms, some with gusty winds. A strong tropical wave is forecast to reach the waters E of the Lesser Antilles late Thu or Thu night. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A ridge dominates the forecast waters anchored by a 1022 mb high pressure located near 33N70W. Under the influence of this system, light to gentle NE-E winds are noted N of 22N with gentle to moderate winds S of 22N. Seas are 3-5 ft E of the Bahamas, and 1-3 ft W of the Bahamas. A surface trough, likely the northern extent of the tropical wave, is noted over the NW Bahamas. This trough will move across south Florida into the SE Gulf of Mexico tonight and Tue. A ridge is forecast to remain in place across the forecast waters through the next several days. Winds will pulse to fresh to locally strong near the northern coast of Hispaniola each night through Thu night, with slightly weaker winds thereafter.
