000 AGXX40 KNHC 052029 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 429 PM EDT Sun Aug 5 2018 Update Caribbean Sea section for tropical wave Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A trough extending from near 28N91W to 26N93W to near 23N95W will continue westward through early Mon. Locally developing surface troughs over the Yucatan Peninsula will produce fresh winds over the eastern waters of the Bay of Campeche from the early evenings to overnight hours during the next several days. Otherwise, high pressure ridging remain over the area through the upcoming week, with a high center developing over the eastern Gulf towards the end of the week. Mainly moderate E to SE flow will become primarily gentle as the high center develops, except locally moderate offshore of Texas and NE Mexico. Seas of 3 to 4 ft will subside slightly as the winds lighten. Scattered showers and thunderstorms observed over much of the forecast waters will continue through the early portion of the upcoming week. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A tropical wave with axis along 67W is interacting with an upper-level low centered over the eastern section of the Dominican Republic. This is resulting in numerous showers and thunderstorms, with possible gusty winds, north of 14N and between 64W and 70W. This activity will gradually spread west- northwest through Mon night steered by the upper-level flow pattern between the upper-low and anticyclonic flow over the central Atlantic. The tropical wave will move across the remainder of the eastern Caribbean through Mon night, and across the rest of the Caribbean through Fri. Fresh trades will pulse in the Gulf of Honduras the next several days where seas will occasionally build to 6 ft. Fresh to strong trades in the S central Caribbean will expand in coverage while intensifying to near gale force NW of the coast of Colombia through the week. This will occur as the pressure gradient tightens with high pressure in the SW N Atlantic shifting southward, and low pressure over northern Colombia deepening slightly. Gale force wind will be possible in the Gulf of Venezuela Tue, Wed and Thu night, and NW of the coast of Colombia Wed night. Current seas of 6 to 9 ft in the central Caribbean will build to 7 to 11 ft as the winds expand and increase, even occasionally building to 12 to 14 ft NW of the coast of Colombia. Elsewhere, seas will be mainly in the 4 to 7 ft range. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A weakening backdoor cold front analyzed from near 26N65W to 28N73W will push a little more southward while becoming a remnant trough Mon. Weak low pressure may develop along the remnant trough over the NE corner of the offshore basin by Wed, but is expected to have a short life span. A new area of high pressure ridging, expected to be relatively weak, will develop to the south of this boundary and extend in a NW to SE fashion. Winds will pulse to fresh to locally strong near the northern coast of Hispaniola each night through Fri night. New high pressure ridging will develop S of this boundary, extending from NW to SE. Overall, fairly tranquil boating conditions are expected to prevail N of 23N through the upcoming week. S of 23N, winds will pulse to fresh to locally strong speeds near the northern coast of Hispaniola each night through Thu night, with moderate to fresh trades found elsewhere. Seas will occasionally build to 4 to 6 ft near the area of strongest winds. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
