904 AGXX40 KNHC 031804 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 204 PM EDT Fri Aug 3 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A surface trough extending from the Florida Panhandle to just E of the Texas Coastal Bend to the western Bay of Campeche will shift W and inland through tonight. A tropical wave extends N from the eastern Pacific to the Bay of Campeche near 20N94W. Both of these features are combining to produce scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the western third of the Gulf. The trough and tropical wave over the Bay of Campeche will shift to the W of the Gulf tonight and allow ridging from the E to stabilize the atmosphere. The northern extent of a tropical wave currently over central Cuba will move through the Straits of Florida tonight and across the southern Gulf this weekend. Surface troughs moving W from the Yucatan Peninsula will produce fresh to locally strong winds over the eastern waters of the Bay of Campeche from sunset to around midnight. Otherwise, high pressure ridging will prevail in the wake of the tropical wave. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Fresh to locally strong trades are expected in the central Caribbean and the Gulf of Honduras through Tue night. The strongest winds will pulse to 30 kt near 12N74W during the overnight hours where seas will occasionally build to 10 to 12 ft. Trades will strengthen over the basin late Tue night through Thu as the pressure gradient tightens in response to the ridge over the western Atlantic rebuilding. Winds could possibly peak at minimal gale force over the Gulf of Venezuela and just NW of the coast of Colombia on Thu before the ridge over the western Atlantic weakens and shifts east. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Winds will pulse to strong speeds near the northern coast of Hispaniola each night through Tue night. Otherwise, trade winds across the region will gradually diminish through early next week as a ridge across the Atlantic weakens in response to low pressure and attendant weakening cold front dropping down from the N. The front will become a trough by late this weekend. The ridging will redevelop by the middle of next week as the low and trough dissipate. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
