A cold front is approaching the NW gulf waters, but the front will stall near the upper Texas and Louisiana coasts by this evening, then dissipate inland by Thu evening. A surface trough supported by a mid to upper-level trough digging SE from TX will wander over the western Gulf between 85W and 95W through Fri, then dissipate as the associated mid to upper-level trough weakens. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely in the vicinity of the trough, increasing in intensity by late afternoon and evening. A surface trough will form each day over the Yucatan Peninsula, then move over the Bay of Campeche at night. Fresh to locally strong winds will be possible over the eastern waters of the Bay of Campeche from sunset to around midnight. Otherwise, ridging extending WSW from the western Atlantic will gradually lift N from the northern Gulf into the SE United states and generally maintain moderate ESE to SE return flow over the basin through Sun night. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Strong NE to E trades are expected over the central Caribbean tonight. The area of strong trades will then shrink in size and become more closely confined along the coast of Colombia Thu through Sun night as the ridge to the N is weakened slightly by an area of mid to upper-level low pressure passing near or N of the Bahamas. Fresh to strong winds will pulse over the Gulf Honduras each night through Sun night. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the tropical N Atlantic waters and far SE Caribbean associated with a tropical wave possessing an axis near 60W will continue W into the SE Caribbean today.
