559 AGXX40 KNHC 270705 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 305 AM EDT Fri Jul 27 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A weak surface ridge extends west-northwest from the Florida Keys to southern Texas. Slight troughing persists over the northern Gulf from the Florida panhandle to southern Louisiana. Scatterometer data this morning shows light to gentle winds across the entire basin. Sea heights from surface observations and altimeter data reflect this light wind regime, with 1-2 ft seas indicated. Little change to the current light and variable wind pattern is expected through Sun night. By Monday, a ridge building westward from the Atlantic will begin to induce gentle to moderate S to SE flow south of 27N. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Latest surface observations and scatterometer data indicate fresh to strong trade winds over the south-central Caribbean, moderate to fresh E winds in the eastern Caribbean and E of the Windward Islands, and gentle to moderate winds in the western Caribbean. Nearly stationary Atlantic high pressure will allow this synoptic pattern to persist through the weekend, with a slight variation occurring during the passage of one or more tropical waves, which are lined up across the Caribbean and tropical Atlantic, and evenly spaced about 450 to 600 nm apart. Very little deep convection is associated with any of these waves. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... The subtropical ridge anchored by broad high pressure centered near 37N53W in the central Atlantic dominates the forecast area. Scatterometer data shows moderate to fresh trade winds south of 24N, and gentle to moderate southerly flow elsewhere between 24N and 30N across the region. Seas are generally 4-6 ft east of the Bahamas 2-3 ft elsewhere. Model guidance suggests little change can be expected across the entire forecast area through Tue. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
