The most recent scatterometer data indicate light to gentle winds across the Gulf waters S of 26N under the influence of a ridge, anchored by a 1017 mb high pressure located near 24N92W. The ridge extends SE into the NW Caribbean. A surface trough is over the NE Gulf, and extends from 30N83W to 28N87W. Fresh to locally strong westerly winds are noted behind the trough to about 90W. These winds will persist over the NE Gulf tonight into Mon, with seas building to near 7 ft. The trough will be followed by a weak cold front that will move over the northern Gulf waters through Wed. This front will become stationary and weaken to a trough by Thu. A surface trough will move off the Yucatan Peninsula into the Bay of Campeche each evening, accompanied by fresh nocturnal winds. Elsewhere, a ridge will prevail. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Latest scatterometer data provided observations of strong to near gale force winds over he south-central Caribbean, with gentle to moderate winds prevailing over the remainder of the Caribbean S of 18N as well as the tropical N Atlc forecast waters. Light to gentle anticyclonic flow is noted over the NW Caribbean. Seas are in the 8-12 ft range over the south-central Caribbean with the strongest winds, 5-6 ft over the north central Caribbean, 4-5 ft over the eastern Caribbean, and 3-4 ft over the western Caribbean. Over the tropical N Atlc forecast zones, seas are in the 5-6 ft range. High pressure north of the area will support strong to near gale force winds in the south- central Caribbean through tonight before winds diminish. Then, fresh to strong winds will prevail in the south-central Caribbean, with gentle to moderate winds blowing elsewhere the next several days. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... The Atlantic high pressure combined with a low pressure system over the SE CONUS will produce moderate to fresh southerly winds across the waters just offshore the central and NE Florida through Wed. Moderate to fresh winds are also expected S of 22N W of 70W, including approaches to the Windward Passage most of the forecast period, with building seas to 5 or 6 ft. A ridge across the northern waters will remain in place today before lifting N Mon through Wed. A mid to upper level trough along the southeastern U.S. will continue to promote scattered showers and thunderstorms across the waters N of 27N through the middle part of next week.
