000 AGXX40 KNHC 241853 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 253 PM EDT Sun Jun 24 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Weak high pressure ridging extending from the southeast Gulf waters to Texas will drift to over the northern gulf waters through Tue supporting moderate to fresh SE return flow over the northwestern Gulf. An increasing area of numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms over the far western gulf from 22N to 26N and west of 93W is attributed to a well-noted upper low centered just inland the coast of Mexico near 22N98W and that is moving westward. Lightning density data indicates a cluster of lightning from 22N to 24N between 94W and 96W. The shower and thunderstorm activity is forecast to move inland northeastern Mexico and far southern Texas tonight through Mon. A trough moving west off the western coast of the Yucatan Peninsula each night will further enhance overnight winds over much of the southwestern Gulf waters through Fri. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A series of tropical waves will move westward across the tropical north Atlantic and Caribbean basin through Fri. Building high pressure over the western Atlantic will support increased winds and seas over the region, reaching near gale force off Colombia mainly at night through Wed. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Latest mosaic radar display and satellite imagery reveal an increasing area of scattered showers and thunderstorms covering just about the entire NW and central Bahamas southwestward to inland the central coast of Cuba. This activity is being enhanced by the northern extension of a tropical wave that is currently near 80W/81W, and is in advance of an upper low centered over the southeastern Bahamas early this afternoon. The activity is progressing to the southwest under strong NE winds. Gusty winds are possible with some of these showers and thunderstorms. Moisture guidance suggests that this activity will gradually diminish on Mon as the wave axis moves off to the west across the western Caribbean Sea. Otherwise, high pressure extending westward from a high center over the central Atlantic to Florida will maintain gentle to moderate winds north of 22N and fresh south of 22N, becoming strong off Hispaniola at night through the period. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
