000 AGXX40 KNHC 211804 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 204 PM EDT Thu Jun 21 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... An area of low pressure centered just SE of Laredo Texas will generate strong gusty winds, numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms over Texas coastal waters today. Winds and seas for the NW Gulf will continue to diminish through tonight as the low weakens. A broad ridge across the SE Gulf will support light winds and seas less than 3 ft east of 88W through Tue. SE return flow over the western Gulf will become fresh to strong Sun through Tue as high pressure building over the Gulf from the western Atlantic tightens the pressure gradient in this region. A surface trough will develop over the Yucatan Peninsula each afternoon, then move westward across the SW Gulf during the overnight hours, accompanied by fresh east to southeast winds. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A tropical wave passing south of Haiti will pass S of Jamaica tonight and into the western Caribbean Fri. A tropical wave has reached the Lesser Antilles and will enter the eastern Caribbean tonight. Trade winds over the south- central Caribbean will strengthen and expand in areal coverage across the basin through early next week as high pressure builds westward from the central Atlantic over the western Atlantic. Winds could reach near gale force along the coast of Colombia by Sun night. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... High pressure over the east-central Atlantic will slowly shift westward through Sat night, then remain nearly stationary near 30N55W through Tue. The tightening pressure gradient that results over the central and western Atlantic will support fresh to strong E to SE winds S of 23N beginning on Fri night. This will cause seas to build to between 6 and 7 ft for the southern waters E of the Bahamas this weekend.
